Foot Powder for Moisture and Friction Control

Used to reduce foot moisture, friction, and odor in situations where hygiene is limited and foot care is essential—such as during long hikes, shelter stays, or off-grid living.

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) neutralizes odor and sweat acidity, while cornstarch absorbs moisture to reduce friction and help prevent blisters. Combined, they create an effective, shelf-stable foot powder that supports comfort and cleanliness without relying on commercial products.

Ingredients

  • 2 parts sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • 2 parts cornstarch (moisture absorber)
  • 1 part bentonite clay or food-grade diatomaceous earth (optional; adds extra dryness)
  • Small shaker container, tin, or jar

How to Use It

  • Dust a small amount onto clean, dry feet before putting on socks or boots
  • Reapply as needed during high activity or in hot weather
  • Can also be sprinkled inside footwear or socks to manage moisture
  • Use daily to reduce odor, sweating, and skin irritation

Warnings

  • Do not apply to broken or irritated skin
  • Avoid inhaling powder during application—apply in a ventilated space
  • Keep out of reach of children and animals

Storage & Shelf Life

  • Store in a sealed, dry container
  • Cornstarch has an indefinite shelf life when kept uncontaminated and moisture-free
  • Keep dry during use to avoid clumping or spoilage
  • Label clearly and store with hygiene or foot care supplies

When to Use It

  • During extended wear of footwear without access to washing
  • In hot, humid, or high-friction environments
  • To reduce foot odor, sweating, and blister risk
  • As part of regular hygiene maintenance in off-grid or field conditions
