Amazon product description specifically says do not use this product to store water for emergency preparedness. I am confused as I figure this website was promoting ideas to help preppers and survivalists

That is correct! This is NOT a long term storage option. This is the perfect water storage option that'll allow you to quickly transport and fill in an emergency scenario.
