You only get one life in this world. As such, it’s important to make the most of it! While there are a million different ways to do that, all different methods seem to have the same underlying theme — they’re full of freedom. You can be doing anything, but if it doesn’t feel freeing, then you’re probably not going to be enjoying life as much as you could.
There are things you can do to increase your freedom, as we’ll see below. Take them on board, and you’ll be on your way towards living a life that feels very much like your own.
Create Your Own Values
It’s hard to really be on board with ideas and values if they seem alien to you. Just because you’ve been given one set of values from your parents (or broader society, or anywhere), that doesn’t mean that you need to live by them. It’s good to question the things that we’ve been told to think and believe. Well, there’s no downside to doing so — you’ll come out the other side with more concrete beliefs or entirely new ones. In any case, you’ll know that the values really are your own.
Don’t Stay Committed
People seem to become pretty stuck in their ways when they become adults. They’ve settled into one way of being. And that can be good for a little while, but if it goes on and on, then it begins to feel less like a choice we’re making and more like a trap from which we cannot break. The good news is that breaking those chains is a lot easier than people imagine — it just requires a bit of courage, really. Deciding to give up on your current career and train for something else sounds like a herculean task, but all the barriers are just psychological.
Make Your Own Income
You’ll have problems feeling free if you have financial problems. But also, you may struggle to feel a true sense of freedom if you’re dependent on someone else to pay your salary. The highest goal should be to make money for yourself. And in this day and age, there are plenty of different ways you can do that. You can start your own store or another establishment, or you could look into something like commodities trading, which will allow you to earn money with nothing but your laptop. Also, once you’re working for yourself, you’ll also have much greater control over how you spend your time since no one else is buying your time from you.
Be Grateful
Finally, there’s the matter of gratitude. You might have everything going for you, but if you’re not grateful, then you could fall into the trap of believing that nothing is ever enough. Once you’re in that circle, it can be pretty difficult to escape. Plus, you’ll have lost your freedom to enjoy the present. You don’t need to work too hard to feel more grateful — just keeping a gratitude diary each day can do wonders.
