  • Supports self-sufficiency and sustainable routines

Ingredient Benefits & Shelf Life

White Vinegar

  • Purpose: Disinfectant, degreaser, and mold-fighter.
  • Shelf Life: Indefinite when stored sealed in a cool, dark place.

Pine Needles

  • Purpose: Antibacterial, antifungal, deodorizing. Provides a natural forest scent.
  • Shelf Life (once infused): 6–12 months after straining.

Cinnamon Sticks

  • Purpose: Fights fungi and bacteria, neutralizes odors.
  • Shelf Life: 4+ years when kept dry. Potent for up to a year in infusion.

Citric Acid

Citric acid isn’t essential for this cleaner to work, but we include it because it boosts descaling power, helps fight mildew, and extends shelf life. It’s a lightweight, long-lasting powder that stores indefinitely—making it a smart addition for anyone focused on preparedness or off-grid living.

  • Purpose: Enhances descaling and degreasing. Natural preservative and microbial inhibitor.
  • Shelf Life: Indefinite if stored dry and sealed.

Ingredients (for a Half-Gallon Mason Jar)

  • 4 cups white vinegar (5% acidity)
  • 2 to 3 cups fresh pine needles (rinsed)
  • 4 to 6 cinnamon sticks (broken in half)
  • 2 teaspoons citric acid (added after straining)

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Peel from 1 orange or lemon (adds degreasing and scent)
  • 6 to 8 whole cloves (for antifungal properties)
  • 10 drops essential oil (tea tree, eucalyptus, or orange)

Instructions

Prep the Jar: Use a clean half-gallon mason jar. If using a metal lid, line it with parchment to prevent vinegar corrosion.

Add Ingredients: Place pine needles, cinnamon sticks, and optional add-ins into the jar.

Pour in Vinegar: Cover the contents with white vinegar, topping off until fully submerged.

Infuse: Seal and let sit in a cool, dark area for 2–3 weeks. Shake occasionally.

Strain & Add Citric Acid: Strain the liquid through a fine mesh. Add citric acid (2 teaspoons) and stir until dissolved. Transfer to a spray bottle.

Dilute to Use: Mix 1:1 with water for general cleaning. Use undiluted on tough messes.

Where & How to Use It

Perfect for:

  • Kitchen counters (avoid natural stone)
  • Bathroom surfaces
  • Mirrors & glass
  • Doorknobs and appliance handles
  • Utility sinks or off-grid bathhouses

Note: Do not use on granite or marble. The vinegar and citric acid can etch stone.

Storage Guidelines

  • While Infusing: Up to 1 month sealed and stored away from light.
  • After Straining with Citric Acid: Up to 12 months in a sealed spray bottle.

A good prepper cleaner doesn’t rely on store-bought solutions. It’s made from ingredients you can store long-term, forage locally, and trust. Vinegar, pine, cinnamon, and citric acid hit that sweet spot of effectiveness and longevity.

Whether you’re deep into preparedness, running a self-reliant homestead, or just simplifying your routine, this cleaner deserves a place in your supplies.
