Would you need to purify bottled water that has been sitting for more than 6 months. I have a few 40 packs of water.

No, I wouldn't unless the water has been opened or looks cloudy or has an "off" color.

Could this be used with a Berkey water filtration system to store filtered water? How long can water be stored? Would any other purifying agent need to be added for water's long storage?

Cleanliness: The jug should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before use to prevent bacterial growth. Regular cleaning is also essential if you're continuously using and refilling it.

Storage Conditions: Store the jug in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Light and warmth can encourage algae and bacterial growth.

Duration of Storage: Filtered water can be stored for a relatively long time. However, the exact duration depends on the storage conditions. In ideal conditions, filtered water can be stored for up to 6 months, but it's generally recommended to use it within a few weeks to a month for the best quality.

Additional Purifying Agents: Under normal circumstances, if the water is properly filtered and stored, you shouldn't need to add any purifying agents. However, if you plan to store water for an extended period (several months), you might consider adding a small amount of chlorine bleach (unscented, with 5-6% sodium hypochlorite) as a precaution. The typical recommendation is about 1/8 teaspoon (or 8 drops) per gallon of water. This can help inhibit microbial growth.

Regular Checks: Periodically check the water for any changes in smell, taste, or appearance. If you notice anything unusual, it's best to discard the water.

Usage: If the water has been stored for a long time, it's a good practice to re-filter or boil it before use, especially if you have any doubts about its quality.
