Antiseptic for Cuts, Wounds & Skin Infections

Used in survival situations to disinfect wounds, prevent infection, and treat minor skin conditions when medical supplies are limited.

Lugol’s Iodine is a stable iodine solution made with elemental iodine and potassium iodide. It’s a powerful, broad-spectrum antiseptic that kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact. In emergencies or off-grid conditions, it can be used to clean cuts, treat insect bites, reduce the risk of wound infection, and manage fungal or bacterial skin issues. Its long shelf life and potency make it an essential first-aid staple in any survival kit.

Ingredients:

  • Lugol’s Iodine Solution (2%) – stored in amber glass with tight-fitting cap
  • Clean water (boiled, filtered, or disinfected)
  • Non-metallic container (glass, ceramic, or thick plastic cup)
  • Sterile cloth, cotton pad, or gauze
  • Optional: small dropper or spray bottle for easy application

How to Use It:

Direct Application (for minor cuts, bites, or infections)

  • Clean the wound area with clean water.
  • Apply 1–2 drops of Lugol’s iodine directly to the wound.
  • Let it air dry — this forms a protective, antiseptic barrier.

Wound Wash Solution (for larger scrapes, shallow wounds, or rinsing)

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of Lugol’s iodine into ½ cup of clean water.
  • Stir gently with a non-metallic utensil.
  • Use a sterile cloth or cotton to dab or gently pour over the wound.

Skin Treatment (for fungal spots or infected areas)

  • Dab 1 drop directly onto affected skin (such as a boil, inflamed spot, or bite).
  • Repeat 1–2 times daily until healed.

Warnings:

  • Do not ingest for wound treatment.
  • May cause temporary skin staining (brown/orange is normal).
  • Avoid eyes, ears, and mucous membranes.
  • Discontinue if rash, irritation, or allergy occurs.
  • Do not use on deep puncture wounds, severe burns, or large open injuries — seek professional care if possible.

Storage & Shelf Life:

  • Unopened (amber glass bottle): Shelf life is typically 3–5 years, but under ideal conditions — cool, dark, dry, and airtight — it may remain potent indefinitely.
  • Once opened: For maximum effectiveness, use within 12–18 months, as exposure to air can gradually reduce iodine strength.
  • Always keep the cap tightly sealed to prevent evaporation and oxidation.
  • Store away from heat and light, and never transfer to metal or plastic containers, which iodine can corrode or degrade.
