How do I make a vinegar bug spray?

Vinegar diluted with water, optionally with an insect-repelling essential oil, makes a mild spray for entry points. Wiping surfaces to erase the scent trails ants follow does most of the work; the spray's deterrence is weak and short-lived.

What's the recipe for a natural fly repellent for a chicken coop?

The fly version is diluted vinegar with an oil such as citronella, lemongrass, or eucalyptus. Essential oils can harm birds, so a vinegar-only mix is the safe choice anywhere birds are kept.

Does vinegar repel ants and gnats?

Only mildly. Vinegar's real value is cleaning away the scent trails ants follow; as a sprayed repellent against ants and flying insects it is weak and fades fast. It does not control a colony, which takes baits.

How long does homemade vinegar bug spray last?

Vinegar itself keeps indefinitely when sealed, and a premixed bottle stores well too. The deterrent effect on surfaces is another matter: it fades fast and needs frequent reapplication.
