Everyday carry tactical sling: my setup and what is inside

The everyday carry sling I use, an Eberlestock Fade Flex, and the five things inside it: a Hellcat 9mm, two spare magazines, a fixed blade, a light, and pepper spray.

A well organized sling keeps essential gear within easy reach, spreads the weight, and holds the bulk close to your body. Mine is an Eberlestock Fade Flex. It carries a defensive pistol, two spare magazines, a fixed blade, a flashlight, and pepper spray, each chosen for performance, reliability, and real-world use. It gives me capability without unnecessary bulk.

The sling and the pistol

Eberlestock is known for rugged build quality and thoughtful design. The Fade Flex carries comfortably, gives quick access, and has modular attachment points. Its materials hold up to a daily system that gets loaded and unloaded constantly, and it leaves you free to move.

At the core is the Hellcat micro compact in 9mm from Springfield Armory. It is designed for concealment and rapid deployment, with high capacity relative to its size, reliable feeding, and intuitive controls. It balances shootability against compact carry.

I carry two spare magazines in addition to the one in the pistol. Use pouches on the sling or a compact pouch closer to your body. Either way, place them where a reload is smooth under stress.

Knife, light, and pepper spray

Knife.

A fixed blade is strong and fast to reach for cutting, prying, cord work, or emergency survival tasks. The Mullet T is compact enough for every day and robust enough for demanding jobs. A dedicated sheath keeps it secure.

Light.

You need illumination in low visibility and to identify hazards. The Olight Warrior 3S is bright and durable. Momentary on and multiple output levels cover different situations, and it rides in a mount or secure pocket pouch within quick reach.

Pepper spray.

The ASP Quick Release Pepper Spray covers situations where drawing a firearm is not appropriate or legally justified. OC spray creates distance and lets you disengage by causing intense eye irritation and respiratory distress at close range. This model is compact and built for rapid access, so stage it where your support hand can reach it. It supports a graduated response.

Know your local laws, train with inert practice units if you can get them, and keep defensive tools stored safely with controlled access.

How I pack it

Pistolin a holster that mates to the sling, in a position I can draw from quickly and safely. Consistent placement means consistent performance under stress.
Magazinesin dedicated pouches that do not shift or rattle, easy to index by feel so you can retrieve them with no need to look.
Knifein a sheath with secure retention, clear of the primary tools but still reachable.
Flashlightwhere the support hand can grab it while the primary hand stays on the sling.

Keep it ready

Check all the gear before each day of use. Confirm the magazines are properly loaded. Inspect the light and charge its battery. Practice transitions and reloads until your body moves with confidence.

Carrying a defensive firearm is a serious responsibility. If any of these tools are new to you, get formal training and practice regularly. Gear only matters when you know how to use it.
