How long does canned fruit last?

Canned fruit really lasts 2 to 5 years when stored cool and dry, even though the label date usually says 1 to 2 years. Inspect the can and its contents before eating anything past the label date.

How do I store canned fruit long term?

Keep canned fruit in a cool, dry place. Stored that way it holds for 2 to 5 years, well past the 1 to 2 years on the label. Check cans for dents, rust or swelling as they age.

How do I tell if canned fruit has gone bad?

Warning signs are dents, rust, swelling, bulging or leaking cans, spurting on opening, a foul odor, cloudy liquid, and a sour or metallic taste. Inspect the can before opening, then smell it and check the contents for discoloration and off texture.
