How long does canned tomato sauce last?

Canned tomato sauce has a real shelf life of 2 to 5 years when stored well, even though the label date says 18 to 24 months. High-acid foods like tomatoes keep their best quality for about 12 to 18 months.

How do I tell if canned tomato sauce has gone bad?

Inspect the can before opening it. Bulging, rusting or leaking cans are warning signs, as are a foul odor, cloudy liquid or spurting when opened. After opening, check for off-odors, discoloration and changes in texture.
